Co-produit par Pop Montréal et le National Film Board of Canada, Music.Seen a été tourné en mars 2009 dans une vingtaine de salles de spectacles de Montréal. Anne-Marie Bergeron (urler.tv, 33mag) et Ben Shemie (Zeroes) ont enregistré une trentaine de bands tels Duchess Says, Malajube, We Are Wolves, Red Mass et The Besnard Lakes , avant et pendant les concerts, sur scène, dans la foule et backstage. Tous les sons et les images furent ensuite coupés et remixés, pour créer une nouvelle trame narrative. De l’excitation des bands avant de monter sur scène, à l’intensité de la foule en plein mosh pit, en passant par un voyage probable dans le subconscient d’un musicien, ce film expérimental est une interprétation visuelle et sonore de la scène musicale montréalaise. Ce film est Music.Seen.

My next projects may have this aesthetic. I currently work with Wireless cameras, and the natural interferences create by all the electromagnetic fields on stage is creating interesting images which I am aiming to push more.

One of my best moment of Coachella was when I heard that song in the Gobi tent right before The Bug. I jumped on stage and started to dance like a 5 years old. I am so happy to see them again at Zoobizzarre next Thrusday April 30th for the sold out Boombox night organized by Khiasma. And that song makes me realized how much I love M.I.A. Despite all her bad performances, I have to admit that she learned how to sing (I really appreciated her show at Coachella) and she writes the geatest melodies, like the one in this song.

5 days ago (suggesting how I wish I was still there) I ran into this guy in front of Studio One in Kingston, Jamaica. We were recording with the Silvertones, a band from the Rocksteady period, and this dude came in front of me and started the best song ever!
His name is Million Teeth … and he will explain you why near the end of the clip.

I spent the week-end in the 70s-look walls of the National Film Board of Canada with the 8 people part of Making Music III, cuvée 2009. Well, it seems like we are now calling ourselves D.W.A. (Directors With Attitude). We have gang signs too so do not mess with us

During these 3 days, we had great conferences with some of the most inspiring filmakers of the NFB and of course, we watched great short films and documentaries, all of which are available online: www.nfb.ca

Ok I have to go to work now but please go check it out. I will come back with movies suggestions later on.

An evening of quiet time records to warm up those creative juices in this sub-zero weather.

Forget partying…. let’s get some work done.

It’s winter time in Montreal…

Are you slacking off on knitting that scarf you started in 2004? Maybe you’ve been trying to finish that third act of that play you’ve been writing…? How’s that collection of Sonnets coming along? Are you still sketching out storyboards for that animated short you wanted to make?

Bring your sketchbook, yarn, or that lump of clay. Floor lamps, pens, knitting needles, and lap desks will be provided. Five bucks admission includes a free cup of hot chocolate or tea. Music will be provided by Kid Koala. Expect a full 5-hour set of some of his favorite quiet time records that he has collected on his travels around the world. Baked goods will be provided by Kid Koala’s wife, Corinne, who dreams of someday opening a bakery in Montreal and would like to try out some of her new creations first.

“I was working on the Space Cadet book and realized at 8 hours a page I would have to log another 800 hours of alone time before this book would see the light of day. It would be great if there was a place I could go be social and anti-social at the same time. Somewhere I could look up from my desk and see something other than the wall. I tried drawing in a couple of the neighborhood diners and coffee shops but they’d blast the radio, and the music and traffic reports kept throwing me out of the zone… plus they don’t appreciate people who try to nurse one glass of apple juice for 8 hours.”

Quiet people are invited. All ages too. Bring something to work on. No dancing. Hope to see you there!

Last night we danced, danced, danced on the lovely melodies of Lykke Li, the swedish singer we’re all a little bit in love with. If we were in the complaint department, we would say that the young singer does not have a strong voice. But I think she knows she is not a strong singer (ref: interview in Voir and Hour with Marie-Hélène Poitras), but what an amazing songwriter she is. Even if her ectic tour left her with almost no voice (she almost cancelled her show last night), she was there, hanging high, giving everything she had and showing us her beautiful dance moves.

On the last notes of Tonight, I was 100% satisfied with the show, kissed my favorite scenesters, I was good, I was gone!
